Qi Jian Xia Tian Shan
The plot is based on the historical events of the early Qing Dynasty during the reign of Emperor Kangxi, such as the struggles within the imperial clan, the Wu Sangui rebellion and the Manchurian invasion of modern-day Xinjiang. Also, the plot has connections with the plots of other wuxia novels by Liang Yusheng, such as Romance of the White Haired Maiden (白发魔女传) and some characters were from these novels.
In 1643, the Manchurians conquered the Central Plains and established the Qing Dynasty in China. To strengthen their griphold over the newly conquered empire and prevent the conquered peoples from rebelling against them, the Manchurian government passed a law forbidding the common people to form societies of their own or practise martial arts. At the same time, they dispatched legions of troops to arrest and kill martial artists, and those who resisted were killed without exception, as such, causing chaos and turmoil all over China. To save the world of martial artists from persecution by the Qing government, a group of swordsmen known as the Seven Swordsmen gathered and swore to defend the Jianghu from the Qing government's brutality. They comprised Fu Qingzhu (傅青主), Zhang Huangyan (张煌言), Wu Yuanying (武元英), Yang Yuncong (杨云骢), Xin Longzi (辛龙子), Chu Zhaonan (楚昭南) and Mu Lang (穆郎).
After the Seven Swordsmen left Mount Heaven, they met up with the Heaven and Earth Society (天地会), a self-proclaimed righteous secret society of resistance fighters who defied and fought the Qing government, and joined the Society in the struggle. However, one day they were discovered by the Qing army and they were forced to temporarily disband and separate. Ever since then, the Seven Swordsmen embarked on their personal adventures and missions. The Swordsmen were never reunited again as they encountered different fates. Yang Yuncong was killed and Chu Zhaonan defected to the enemy. Mu Lang returned to Mount Heaven together with Yang's infant daughter Yi Lanzhu (易兰珠) after his misadventure. He trained in martial arts and became a formidable martial artist, as marked by his spectacular return to the Jianghu eighteen years later under his new alias Ling Weifeng.
Eighteen years later, the surviving members of the pioneer generation of the Seven Swordsmen were reunited by their common goal and quest on Mount Wutai. They were joined by the future members of the new generation, such as Zhang Huazhao (张华昭), Mao Wanlian (冒浣莲) and Yi Lanzhu who had grown up. Fu Qingzhu managed to assemble the new generation of the Seven Swordsmen under his leadership, now comprising himself, Gui Zhongming, Flying Red Sash, Mao Wanlian, Yi Lanzhu, Liu Yufang and Zhang Huazhao. The Swordsmen went on to settle their past feuds with the traitor Chu Zhaonan and Prince Dodo (多铎), who was responsible for the death of Yang Yuncong. Towards the end of the novel, they attempted to assassinate the Qing ruler Kangxi Emperor (康熙皇帝) to stop the persecution of martial artists and the common Han Chinese people. However, they were persuaded by Nalan Rongruo (纳兰容若) to give up their mission. After carefully considering the possible disastrous consequences the assassination of the Emperor would cause, the Swordsmen gave up their mission, but they would return to slay Kangxi if he oppressed his people. The Seven Swordsmen then continued to serve the common people by helping the poor and eliminating evil.
This novel is also acts as the closing of love story between Zhuo Yihang and White Hair Demoness.
