Like the illustration, most blanket shop signs had the shop's name written on the upper part, with a trailing row of thick knitting yam below. Most signs were made of blanket materials, though a few were made of felt. They had the shop's name along with written characters like "Ciing Shui Hua Tan" (fancy dry blanket) or "Zai Rong Hua Tan" (fancy tufted blanket), and both the top and bottom were fixed with braces.
