Nowadays weight-loss has become popular among young and middle-aged women. In order to seek beauty, they try many different ways to lose weight. Some go on a diet, some do exercise, some take medicine, while others even turn to medical operation for help. No matter which method is chosen, it has a different effect for each person. Here are the comparisons for good and bad points for seven popular weight-loss methods.

Using Slimming Drugs

There are three mainly "body beautiful" drugs: appetite suppressant; drugs containing diuretics, rhubarb, and senna leaf to remove fluid from the body; and drugs that help you to consume fat and calories.

Advantage:
These drugs are fast and convenient.

Disadvantage:
When you stop taking the drugs, your weight will rapidly return to way it was before. Miss Wang had taken a specific slimming drug bought by her friend from abroad. The first month after she took the drug, she lost five kilograms. However, she felt faint and stopped taking the drug. But, her weight increased from 49 kilograms to 80 kilograms. Further more, she couldn’t lose any more weight.
Moreover, long-term use of weight-loss medicine will have a negative effect on the nerve system, the heart and blood vessels, and kidney. So far, there is no such medicine to lose weight without a negative effect.

Going on a Diet

Using this method some cut down on their intake of staple food and carbohydrates and only ate fruits, vegetables and soup. Some said they would not refuse any delicious meals but would omit all the food after their meals.

Advantage:
It is a drug-free method.

Disadvantage:
Going on a diet sounds natural but it is dangerous. It will cause malnutrition, low metabolic rate, anemia, a drop in immunity and slack skin. Although notable result has been made, it is easy to rebound. Once you give up your diet, the hungry cells will absorb nutrition indiscriminately thus your body weight will increase. Moreover, long-term diet will highly threaten life.

Doing Exercises

This way is based on the principles of aerobics to enhance basal metabolic rate and burn body fat rapidly.

Advantage:
You can lose weight while improving the functions of the heart and lung. It is a healthy and effective weight-loss method and it also can prevent cardiovascular disease.

Disadvantage:
Not all exercises are effective in losing weight. After heavy exercise, you will have a good appetite as your blood sugar level drops. You may eat excessive food if you do not watch out. Some sports which require speed can only help exercise your muscle fiber to make you stronger instead of slimmer. Even if you reach your weight-loss aim through the right exercises, you will become stout once you stop. Nothing but sticking to long-term sports keeps you fit.

Liposuction

This requires you to make an incision in your body and inserting needles into the fat layer to draw out the fat.

Advantage:
Liposuction means a quick effect.

Disadvantage:
Taking liposuction will make your body out of proportion. And you need to wear corset and knead the skin and muscle after the operation. However, your weight will rebound if you don’t pay attention to your diet. Moreover, this operation can only draw off subcutaneous fat while other fat remains. So, it cannot reduce the risks of cardiovascular disease.

Acupuncture

Stimulating certain points to regulate the metabolism function of the body and accelerating the breakdown of the fat. At the same time, acupuncture can inhibit gastric motility and secretion. Thus it can alleviate your sense of hunger.

Advantage:
Acupuncture is safe and reliable, so it is regarded as a green weight-loss method.

Disadvantage:
Acupuncture weight-loss progress is slow and it needs a veteran doctor's high skills.

Cutting Stomach Operation

The normal contents of the stomach is about 1,000-1,200 cubic centimeters, but the contents of your stomach will be 20-30 cubic centimeters after the operation. This operation is not so popular in China as in Japan, European countries and America.

Advantage:
Due to a research, after the operation the incidence of liver fat has dropped from 82 percent to 3 percent; the incidence of hyperlipemia has decreased from 72 percent to 5 percent; and the incidence of hypertension has dropped from 46 percent to 5 percent.

Disadvantage:
It was considered as the "last of the therapeutics" to have this operation for weight loss and it is only suitable for those overweight people. The operation needs general anesthesia and has a certain risk such as gastric avulsion and gastric bleeding. Besides, the vitamins and mineral getting from food may not meet the needs of your body after the operation, so you may need special supplements of vitamins.

Fitness Machine

There are two kinds of fitness machines. One is a large massage instrument used in beauty parlors to increase muscular movement. The other is a fat losing machine. It can dissolve fat in the arms, waist and legs by the shaking of electric current.

Advantage:
It is comfortable and suitable for "lazy" people.

Disadvantage:
Maybe you enjoy the course of slimming machines in beauty parlors, but you cannot see visible results. The strong vibration of the machine may cause a mechanical lesion and gastrointestinal tract disease. Women users may have results such as a prolonged menstrual period, dysmenorrheal and hanging womb.
